specialised streams
Ferguson House has three distinct streams to ensure that each learner is able to find a place within our school that is optimally suited to their unique needs:
1. Core Curriculum
2. Supportive Learning Center (SLC)
3. Individualised Learning Unit (ILU)
STREAM 1:
Core CURRICULUM
We offer the core CAPS curriculum (grades R-7) with small classes and expert teachers to ensure that each learner gets the focused attention that they need.
This stream specialises in working with:
…neurotypical students;
…students on the autism spectrum;
…students with developmental delays;
…students with ADHD;
…and students with various specific learning challenges, like dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, etc.
Stream 2:
Supportive Learning Centre (SLC)
The SLC is a specialised unit for learners (ages 5-18) who would manage better with an adapted curriculum. This unit works from the national D-CAPS curriculum, paired with individualised education plans to elevate learners to their highest potential by meeting them exactly where they are.
This stream specialises in working with:
…students on the autism spectrum;
…students with developmental delays;
…students with Down syndrome.
…and students with various specific learning challenges, like dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, etc.,
The SLC is divided into separate classes to accommodate students with different needs and to facilitate progression
Stream 3:
The Individualised Learning
Unit (ILU)
The ILU is our most intensively supported stream, providing support for pre-verbal learners (ages 5-13) with more pronounced neurodivergence, developmental delays and/or intellectual disabilities. The ILU works from fully individualised education plans (IEPs), with monthly reviews and regular progress reports.
